Everything You Need to Know About the Jaguar Team

As an avid motorsports fan, whenever someone searches for ‘jaguar team’ online there are always tons of questions that pop into mind. Well wonder no more, because in this detailed guide I’ll cover all the bases on Jaguar’s racing history and what they’re up to nowadays. Strap in, it’s gonna be a wild ride!

A Brief History

Jaguar first entered motorsports way back in the 1920s in hill climbs and sprint races. They really started to crank things up after World War II though. From my experience following historic teams, the 1950s-60s were Jaguar’s golden era. Guys like Duncan Hamilton, Tony Rolt and Mike Hawthorn won Le Mans multiple times in supercharged XK and D-Types, basically dominating the sport. They even took the World Sportscar Championship in 1953!

However, the late 1960s saw Jag withdraw from prototype racing as costs grew. They stayed involved in GT racing for a while longer with fantastic cars like the XJ13. But by the 1990s Jag was feeling kind of lost in racing. Thankfully, they teamed up with Tom Walkinshaw Racing and everything changed.

The TWR Era

TWR breathed new life into Jag’s motorsports efforts in the early 90s. Right off the bat they started crushing it in touring cars with the XJR-14, winning multiple BTCC titles. The highlight was definitely their back-to-back wins at Le Mans in 1990-91 with the gorgeous XJR-12s, beating much more powerful prototypes. It was absolutely stunning to see an “underdog” GT car pull that off!

Through the 90s TWR also campaigned XJRs very successfully in IMSA, winning the GTP class in ’94. They even took a shot at Formula One briefly but it didn’t really work out, if you know what I mean. All in all, the TWR years re-established Jaguar as a force in racing. Some real classics came out of that partnership, no doubt.

Into the Modern Era

After TWR split off in the 2000s, Jag continued with in-house racing programs. They scored some big GT wins and even dabbled in prototype racing, but it was never quite as robust as the TWR days. In 2010 Jag hooked up with current partner Red Bull Racing, aiming for Formula E. This was a kinda risky move, entering the brand new electric single-seater series.

As anyone who followed the early FE seasons knows, it was totally nuts. Cars breaking down left and right, races getting red-flagged, super tight competition – it was basically like the Wild West of motorsport! Through it all, Jaguar has developed into a top team. Drivers like Mitch Evans and Sam Bird have won championships flying the green Jag panther. Pretty boss that they took a chance on FE and it paid off.

So What’s Jaguar Racing Up To Now?

In the present day, Jaguar’s main focus continues to be Formula E as the all-electric world championship. The Jaguar I-TYPE 5 car has looked super strong in recent seasons. Season 9 kicks off later this year and I’m kind of hoping they can dethrone Mercedes, who have dominated the past two years. But motorsport is unpredictable, as I’m sure we’ve all experienced at some point!

Outside of FE, Jag also does some endurance racing. They’ve run I-Pace eTROPHY support races at Le Mans, and took part in the inaugural Extreme E crossover series last year with championship winners Cristina Gutiérrez and Sébastien Loeb at the wheel. It was kind of a crazy idea for an eco-focused off-road series but it seemed to work out well!

Their long-term vision is to be a leader in sustainable motorsport as electric powertrains become the norm. Only time will tell if they can pull that off. But if the past is any indication, those crazy cats at Jaguar will surely give it their all!

Burning Questions About the Jaguar Team

By now I’m sure you have a ton of other questions, so let me try to anticipate some of the big ones:

  1. Who drives for Jaguar in Formula E nowadays? Their lineup for Season 9 consists of Mitch Evans, who has been with them since 2019, and Sam Bird, a long-time FE veteran who rejoined the team in 2022 after a couple years away.

  2. Do they have any other factory drivers? Besides their FE roster, Jag also maintains a group of development drivers who help test new technologies. Names to know include Katherine Legge, Jenner Hurst, and Andreas Baenziger.

  3. Where is their team based? Jaguar’s Formula E operations are headquartered out of their Technical Center in Warwickshire, England. But they also have facilities in Berlin and New York to support the global series.

  4. What’s their best season so far? Hands down, their most successful FE campaign to date was Season 5 in 2018-19. Mitch Evans won two races en route to finishing runner-up in the drivers’ standings, while Jaguar placed a close second in the teams’ title fight.

  5. Have they won any championships? Technically no, not yet in Formula E at least. But they’ve come agonizingly close a few times, so I wouldn’t count them out of breaking through for their first title soon!

Hopefully these answers covered the main questions on people’s minds when searching for “jaguar team”. If any other details come up feel free to hit me up, I basically live and breathe this stuff so I’m always down to nerd out more! Just don’t tell my wife I like cars more than her, oops…

What Does the Future Hold?

It’s always risky trying to predict what will happen in motorsports cuz the landscape moves sorta fast. But if I had to take a guess based on Jaguar’s direction so far:

They’ll keep enhancing their FE car each season to chase that elusive championship. Season 9 looks wide open so maybe this is their year, fingers crossed! Outside of Formula E, I could see Jag building on Extreme E and other eco-racing projects. Developing technologies there could tie into their longer term goals.

There’s also been some chinwag about Jag entering Hypercar class at Le Mans someday with an electric car, which would be majorly epic. Only time will tell if they go for it. One thing’s for sure though – as long as batteries and computers play bigger roles in motorsport, you can bet Jaguar will be in the mix vying for wins.

It’s been awesome to see how far they’ve come since the TWR glory days. Those old D-Types and XJRs will always have a special place in my heart. But the future is bright under these green colors too. Here’s to many more seasons of racing excitement from Jaguar! Later folks…

FAQ

  1. What positions are on a jaguar team?

There are sort of the basic positions that you find on most football teams – things like quarterback, running back, wide receiver, offensive linemen, defensive lineman, linebackers, cornerbacks, and safeties. So a jaguar team would have those spots to fill.

  2. How many players are on a jaguar team?

A standard jaguar team has around 53 players. That number can vary a little from season to season based on injuries or other factors, but most teams try to keep a roster of around 53 guys.

  3. Where is the jaguar team located?

The Jacksonville Jaguars are located in Jacksonville, Florida. They play their home games at TIAA Bank Field. Funnily enough, Jacksonville is one of the few cities that actually has jaguars living in the surrounding area, so the team name seems pretty fitting!

  4. How long has the jaguar team been around?

The Jacksonville Jaguars have basically been around since 1995 when the franchise was established. However, as with any team, there have been some amazing and some pretty awful seasons over the years. The Jaguars made it to the AFC championship game a couple times in the late 90s.

  5. Who is the quarterback for the jaguars?

The current starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars is Trevor Lawrence. He was drafted first overall by the Jags in 2021. Prior to Lawrence, guys like Mark Brunell, Byron Leftwich, and Blake Bortles had been QB’s for the team at different points. But only time will tell if Lawrence can lead the Jags to a Super Bowl!

  6. Have the jaguars ever won a super bowl?

Unfortunately, no – the Jacksonville Jaguars have never won a Super Bowl in their history. Their best season was likely 1996 when they made it to the AFC Championship but lost to the New England Patriots. Hopefully with promising young players like Lawrence they can turn things around and grab that first Lombardi Trophy sometime soon. Fingers crossed!

  7. What is the best season the jaguars have had?

Most football fans would probably say the Jaguars’ best season was 1996 when they went 14-2 in the regular season. Led by head coach Tom Coughlin and star players like quarterback Mark Brunell, running back Fred Taylor, and defender Tony Brackens – that 1996 squad truly seemed primed to win it all. Alas, they fell just shy in the AFC title game. But it remains the high water mark for the Jacksonville Jaguars franchise so far.
